Tyrosine kinase inhibitorFDA-approvedFirst-line

Xalkori

Generic name: crizotinib

How it works

Blocks the activity of the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) and the MET receptors, which are involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells.

Cancer types

Lung Cancer— ALK-positive

Efficacy

In clinical trials, patients with ALK-positive lung cancer treated with crizotinib had a median progression-free survival of approximately 10.9 months.

Side effects

Moderate

Side effects can be significant and may require dose adjustments or supportive medication, but the treatment is usually continued.
